Top 5 Musicals of 2014

This top 5 list will have the best broadway musicals of 2014. All the musicals on this list must have one Tony award. The musicals do not have to have come out in 2014 but they do have to show exceptional actors, story, and music.

5. Les Misérables
Les Misérables is one of the most famous shows ever to go to Broadway. Based on the book by Claude-Michel Schönberg, Les Misérables has made everyone cry and everyone smile. This version stars Ramin Karimloo as Jean Valjean and Will Swenson as Javert. Les Misérables is a show that will be remembered for centuries as an outstanding show.






4. Beautiful -The Carol King Musical
Beautiful - The Carol King Musical is about the life of a young Carol King described through her music. Starring the immensely likable Jessie Mueller as Ms. Carol King. Beautiful - The Carol King Musical is a true story about the young life of the immensely famous Carol King.









3. After Midnight
After Midnight doesn't particularly have a story. Yet it follows the famous fictional club in Harlem called, Cotton Club. Staring the brilliant cast of Fantasia Barrino and Dulé Hill who some know as the character Gus on the former T.V. show Psych. broadyway.com describes it as,  “a heart-pounding musical that brings the sexy, smoky glamour of Harlem's Golden Age to a whole new generation.” 






2. Aladdin
Aladdin is relatively familiar musical with the movie version released in 1992. Aladdin on Broadway is staring Adam Jacobs as Aladdin, Courtney Reed as Jasmine, and James Monroe Iglehart. All of these characters demonstrated amazing talent in all of there performances. “Aladdin is a street-urchin who Aladdin is a street-urchin who lives in a large and busy town long ago with his faithful monkey friend Abu. When Princess Jasmine gets tired of being forced to remain in the palace that overlooks the city, she sneaks out to the marketplace, where she accidentally meets  Aladdin.” (IMDb). Alladin is a amazing show filled with amazing heartfelt moments.


1. A Gentlemen’s Guide to Love and Murder

A Gentlemen’s Guide to Love and Murder is a delightful show that will bring a smile to everyones face. One reviewer from the New York Times says, “Bloodlust hasn’t sung so sweetly, or provided so much theatrical fun, since Sweeney Todd first wielded his razor with gusto many a long year ago.” A Gentlemen’s Guide to Love and Murder stars Jefferson Mays as D'Ysquith Family. A Gentlemen’s Guide to Love and Murder is an absolutely brilliant show with an amazing cast. This show will definitely be remembered as a classic through out the ages.




All of these shows are superb and have amazing casts. Although A Gentlemen’s Guide to Love and Murder ranks higher then all of these shows. A Gentlemen’s Guide to Love and Murder won best musical in the 2014 Tony Awards, and the rest were nominees.
