If you haven’t made a New Year’s Resolution yet, it’s NOT too late. Here are some ideas for late resolutions to start off your year:
- look up from your phone, you might be surprised at how much the world outside of your screen has to offer
- take TONS of pictures
- do something every day that scares you
- read more
- eat healthier
- exercise daily
- work hard to improve in your sport/activity
- write something every day, whether it be a poem, story, or just a random thought
- smile at the good and accept the bad
- try new things, meet new people, make new friends
- if someone offers you a food you’ve never tried, take at least one bite
- listen to songs you don’t know all of the words to
- be someone you would like to be friends with
- surround yourself with people you make you happy
- set realistic goals for your grades and work to achieve them
- become less stressed
- be yourself, stop caring what others think
- do things that you love to do, but be open to new activities as well
- laugh more
- smile :)
- gossip less
- become better friends with someone you kind of know
- talk with people in person, not just texting and snapchatting
- write letters (whether you’re going to give/send them or not, this is a great way to get rid of stress and annoying thoughts)
- keep in touch with faraway friends and family
- don’t just live for the weekend, that’s wasting 5 days of your life every week
- realistically ease yourself out of social media. you don’t have to delete yourself completely, but go days, even weeks, at a time barely looking at your Instagram and Facebook accounts.

- talk to your siblings/parents
- go outside, take walks, climb trees. enjoy nature.
- savor and enjoy the little things
- live in the moment
- keep pictures, poems, drawings, etc. in a box or book. once it’s in, don’t take it out until the end of the year.
- enjoy giving
- unexpectedly thank the people that make your life better
- drink tea
- eat a balanced diet
- accept yourself
- drink more water
- watch classic old movies
- extend your circle of friends
- wear things that make you happy
- make eye contact
- put yourself out there, you never know what might happen
- don’t assume that people don’t like you
- take good care of the earth
- save money for the future
- learn to play an instrument
- say what you mean
- don’t judge or discriminate
- take care of your teeth
- call a friend that you haven’t seen in awhile
- learn a new language, or at least start
- put an end to your obsessive relationship with candy (or other not-so-great-for-you foods)
- stop wasting your time playing meaningless games
- start a YouTube channel or a blog
- become worry free
- go to live concerts and sporting events
- introduce yourself first
- embrace other cultures
- travel more
- take a road trip with your friends
- have relaxing days where you just unwind
- remember that school is important and you’ll thank yourself later for enduring it
- stop complaining, remember how lucky you are
- break a bad habit
- get organized
- redo your room to be more YOU
- wear less makeup
- learn to cook
- stop overthinking
- befriend someone who you know is lonely
- befriend someone who you have wanted to befriend for awhile
- be someone that younger kids can (and should) look up to
- believe in yourself
- start taking vitamins
- grow your hair out/cut it short
- be positive
- have siblings/family dates
- dream big and then work towards it
- volunteer for a non-profit, become invested in the cause
- learn random interesting facts
- help out around the house
- improve in your worst subject
- be nice on the internet
- have crazy ideas and share them
- don’t ask “why,” ask “why not”
- stop worrying about followers/friends on social media
- listen to others
- give people the benefit of the doubt
- remember that celebrities are people too
- make a new playlist every week
- give someone that you don’t like a chance; hating someone affects you, not them
- join a club/group that has the same interests as you
- decorate your room with little (or big) houseplants and succulents to bring it some life
- watch less TV
- learn a new vocabulary word every day/week
- unplug, don’t stay up late on your phone
- become less forgetful
- don’t make a resolution that you won’t follow through with. set realistic goals for yourself throughout the year based on what you want to accomplish.
