#FreeKesha

After years of silence, Kesha is finally speaking out about her tragic and dangerous relationship with her producer Dr. Luke. She alleged that Dr. Luke raped, and abused her, both physically and emotionally. She even claims that her toxic relationship with Dr. Luke was responsible for her eating disorder. However, Dr. Luke has said that the allegations against him are outright lies that have been advanced to extort a contract renegotiation and money. Dr. Luke also took to Twitter, stating, "I didn’t rape Kesha and I have never had sex with her. Kesha and I were friends for many years and she was like my like my little sister.” Kesha has never reported any abuse or rape to law enforcement, or to her record label, Sony Music.

Recently, Kesha has gone to court to try to get out of her recording contract with Sony. She is also suing Dr. Luke so alleged sexual and emotional abuse. The New York County Supreme Court has found that Kesha is already “free” to record and release music without working with Dr. Luke. Sony Music has already spent $11 million promoting Kesha, and will continue to promote her work.

“The court is aware that her vague abuse allegations were devoid of detail and there was no evidence from doctors or anyone else.”

Although this is hard for Kesha, she has many celebrity supporters. For instance, Lady Gaga has taken to social media to show her love for Kesha. Gaga has also met with Kesha to be there for her during this rough patch in Kesha’s life. Lady Gaga says, “Free Kesha. She makes me smile.” Another big supporter is Adele, who has dedicated one of her Brit Awards to Kesha. Also, Taylor Swift donated $250,000 “to help with any of Kesha’s financial needs during this time.” Lorde, Ariana Grande, Anne Hathaway, Lily Allen, Alessia Cara, Halsey, Lena Dunham, and many others have publicly supported her as well. Some have even gone as far as to offer to collaborate with her musically in the future such as Jack Antonoff and Zedd. Charlie Puth had a different take on the situation. He talked about how much he idolizes Dr. Luke as a producer and he said that it was a bummer that Kesha couldn’t just focus on making new music. Some of Kesha’s fans found his comments insensitive because he seemed to only care about Kesha's music rather than her overall well-being. Recently, he has apologized for his somewhat “insensitive” comments.

All in all, Kesha is going to have some tough times going forward, facing future courts and juries. But, with all the support she is receiving, she is expected to overcome.
