Devastating Murder in PC
Last Monday, in the quaint town of Park City the residents were astonished to hear the news regarding a shooting that took place early Monday morning. The victim was Jose Fernandez. He was a 37 years old who worked and lived in Park City. The shooter, James Henfling, a 27-year-old, Midvale resident, is being charged with a first-degree murder and could face three years to life in prison. Unfortunately, Fernandez died at a Salt Lake hospital around 5:45 pm Saturday night. Additional charges may be added to Henfling due to the Fernandez’s death.
On Monday morning at Fernandez’s house party, Fernandez and Henfling were under the influence and a fist fight broke out. The reason for the fistfight was unknown however, the outcome was tragic. Fernandez was shot in the back of the head by a .40-caliber pistol that was fired by Henfling. The Park City police then received a call from Henfling’s girlfriend. The woman told the police that her boyfriend (James Henfling) had just shot a man. The police were able to detain him outside of 7 Eleven when they identified his truck. They then brought him to the Summit County Jail. His bail was posted at $250,000 cash. Henfling is yet to enter a plea, although, he has confirmed that the shot was intentional.
Fernandez was a bartender at the No Name Saloon & Grill and Boneyard Saloon & Wine Dive. The No Name Saloon says that “he made a positive impact on almost every customer and co-worker he met”. His cousin Roberto Romero Garcia states that “ Fernandez was always athletic and he loved the snow. Park City defines him as a person”. Fernandez was married, and his now widowed wife is expecting their first child. The Park City community has generously donated thousands of dollars to Fernandez’s Go Fund Me page. His cousin just hopes that people will not forget Jose Fernandez.
