A Kamas resident, Ashlee Smoot, has been diagnosed with stage 4 colon-cancer. Her cousin, Jason Hewlett (an award winning entertainer) is hosting a fundraiser for her at Salt Lakes Community College's Grand Theater. This event will occur on Monday, April 20th at 6 p.m and is encouraging residents to come to support Ashlee through her battle. The cost is $10 for adults, and $5 for children 12 and under. "Hewlett, who is known for his family-friendly musical comedy, is ready to tell some funny stories and do some of his favorite musical impressions," says
the Park Record.
Ashlee was diagnosed with cancer in late October 2014. She is only thirty-two years old, and has three children under the age of eight. She is not letting cancer stop her. "She's not letting this bring her down. One day she's on kemo, the next day she is running up the mountain. She's still living her life 100% and she is one of my biggest inspirations," says Jason Hewlett in a video promoting the event.
This will be Hewlett's first public performance since 2011. His last event took place at the Egyptian Theater on main street. Since then he has traveled to Afghanistan and Africa to perform for the U.S troops and much more. Along with the show, there will be a silent auction involved with many prizes.
At her fundraiser Jason will sing parodies of other songs for her.
"I have four children who are younger than 9, so my goal is to do some things parents can relate to such as Metallica at bedtime or Adele and Daft Punk being awakened in the middle of the night by their kids," Hewlett said.
