The Deflated Footballs
Sunday night at the Gillette stadium in Fox borough Massachusetts the New England Patriots played the Indianapolis Colts. The Patriots deflated 11 of their 12 footballs that they brought to the game. They would deflated the balls because it would be easier to throw in the rain. When they measured the balls during, or after the game the balls were 2 pounds below what they are supposed to be. The normal weight for a football is 12.5 pounds.
January 22 ESPN released a video of Tom Brady being questioned about the deflated footballs. “I have no knowledge of anything, I have no knowledge of any wrong doing” said Tom Brady. People are buzzing with the question of “Is he telling the truth?” There was a poll taken last night which 53,045 people voted in. The outcome? 47% believe that he is telling the truth while the other 53% don’t believe that he is telling the truth. Only states New York, New Hampshire, Vermont, Massachusetts, Delaware and Rhode Island believe that he is telling the truth. The other 44 states believe differently.
You may be asking what the advantage of having a deflated ball. The advantage is that is easier to grip throw and catch. Former NFL quarterback Mark Brunel says “There’s a huge advantage to having a deflated football.” The 12 balls that the quarterback brings to the game he uses when he is on offense. So only the patriots would have an advantage. Since it was raining it would be much easier to throw and catch the ball.
Sources are saying that the Patriots would have won anyway, even if they weren't using deflated balls.
