With a gunman shooting, protesters filling the streets, and a manhunt that shut down most of Paris, the City of Light is in chaos. A satirical french newspaper, Charlie Hebdo criticized muslim culture and angered two armed gunman. Late last wednesday morning, they stormed into a business meeting, wielding guns and killed 12 and wounded many more. This is the largest shooting France has experienced for over half a century.
Charlie Hebdo has a long history making fun of every aspect of French Culture. It’s antagonistic articles have never, however, been taken too seriously. Until now...
The two men wore black ski masks and carried AK-47 rifles which they wielded with military style skill. They broke into the journalism meeting and shot and killed the editor and cartoonist. They then preceded to fire across the room, killing eleven others including police officers and journalists. After they attack, Paris was shut down and the entire city was probed for the three suspects. One surrendered and the other two were found later hiding in a ware house.
France is now under tight security, with 10,000 troops stationed around France, and police guarding schools and public facilities. Forty world leaders joined in Paris to show solidarity for the victims. There were 1.5 million people at the unity rally in Paris and 1.7 others around the world.
