The Top 5 Things NOT To Talk About at Thanksgiving Dinner

Worrying about the dos and don'ts of Thanksgiving this year? Thanksgiving conversations can always be awkward when you're at the dinner table with your family you haven't seen since last Thanksgiving. Here are some topics you should probably avoid this year:

5. Don’t recite Poetry. (*cough* Mr. Parker): As fun and...interesting, as poetry reciting can be, this is probably not the place nor time. Poetry can be awkward for your family to listen to, don't make them pretend they enjoy it.

4. Don’t talk about anything that will upset your grandmother: This basically means don't talk about anything inappropriate. Trust me, your family does not want to know about the drama going on at school, the party you went to last night, or the boy/girl who you've been texting every chance you get. Save these topics for when your grandmother isn't around.

3. Don’t talk about how bad the food is: This is not saying you have to love your mother's cooking, just that you have to pretend you do. No matter how dry the turkey is, or how chunky the potatoes are, it's rude to comment on it, you don't want to upset your mother. Though it may not seem like it, she put lots of hard work into the meal.

2. Don’t talk about people's weight: Thanksgiving is the day meant to forget your weight, and pig out. Don't remind people that they should lose weight, it's going to ruin their self-image, and their dinner.

1. Don’t talk about religion/politics: These topics can cause some extreme tension between family, your grandparents don't want to talk about your difference in beliefs, they'd rather ignore this and pretend everything is fine and dandy. Don't be the person that turns Thanksgiving into Debategiving.
