Uber, Unsafe?
Jason Dalton, a forty-five year old Uber driver, is currently the alleged shooter for the Kalamazoo shooting. He was arrested early Sunday morning after a seven hour killing spree. Detectives stated that he quote, “Admitted to taking people’s lives”. He is currently under investigation for murdering six people and brutally injuring two others. According to Fortune Magazine, “He was taking passengers on high-speed rides across the city in between the slayings.” This also conveys the Uber business with huge problems. People are starting to question whether or not the company is doing a good job hiring their employees.
The strange factors that come with this case, is that he has no criminal record what so ever, and he has been rated five stars on the Uber app by previous passengers. However, a women that drove with Dalton earlier before the incident, said that he made her feel uncomfortable. Thinking that she was just being paranoid, she gave him five stars anyway. He had no connections to any of the victims. This tells police that he must have chosen them at random. This goes to show that anyone could be a victim, even here in Park City.
Fear is spreading everywhere about the incident. Christine Fischer is a local here in Park City, Utah. When asked about the Kalamazoo shooting, she stated that, “It is horrible that someone would do that to so many innocent people. I am a little more nervous to take Ubers now, but I know that with the right caution and emergency plan, I will be just fine. Uber needs to take a step back and examine their employees more carefully before this continues.” All in all, Jason Dalton may find himself in prison for the rest of his life, and the Uber business will work hard at keeping people safe.
