You may think that athletics are taking away from our academics, however being included in sports encourages good grades. For example, on Park City’s Lacrosse team you cannot play if you have a grade lower than a D. Other teams also require you keep a high GPA. Coaches do understand that academics are more important than sports. Practice often will motivate me to get everything done so that I don’t have to worry about assignments.
Playing a sport will also help students get into a good college. Colleges look for students that can balance their time between sports and school. Being involved in a sport can also lead to scholarships. Boys who play football and basketball are most likely to get a full ride scholarship, according to The College Solution. They also state that girls who play basketball, tennis, gymnastics and volleyball are more likely to receive a scholarship. Park City’s Lacrosse teams is number one in the state of Utah. Being the number one team in the state has often lead to lacrosse scholarships.
Some students have left Treasure Mountain for The Winter School. People believe that The Winter School does not provide the proper education. Students that are in the Winter School have even said that they are throwing their education away by switching to the winter school. Some students really want to excel in academics and others only care about their sports. Switching to the Winter School is a good example of children abusing their time and letting sports take over their time.
Not all students think that sports come before academics. Most athletes know how to balance their time between school work and sports. My conclusion is teens should get involved in sports so they can learn how to manage their time. Engaging in student athletics will also benefit your child’s health by keeping them fit. It will also encourage students to maintain a higher GPA and get higher grades in order to stay on the time. Sports can also lead to a scholarship.
Athletics help students manage stress.
