Pond Skimming

March 22, 2015, was an exciting day. Locals and visitors of Park City came to Canyons Resort for the  8th Annual Spring Grüv. Pond skimming is the major event of the day.   Many men, woman, and children signed up and joined the contest.  They plan for months what costume to wear or what theme a group will take on.  There was a green dragon, a chicken, there was a group of skiers with a yellow submarine on them, guys in bikinis and I personally, liked the old man from, “UP”.

 Pond skimming is very fun and exciting, all ages come to be part of the audience.  My friend , Sean Smith who is an ex olympians skier was the commentator. The skiers and borders go down a 200 yard slope and see how far they skim over a  pond. The skimming is a colorful, crazy, and fun event where people dress up in crazy and creative costumes to get the crowds attention.

The pond skimming is very enjoyable to watch. There were lots of young adults dressed in crazy outfits not participating but there just to be part of the fun.  There were kids and parents there just there to have a great time.  This year was an amazing year to be a contestant and an observer.  The weather was flawless spring skiing temperatures. I believe it was close to 70º degrees in the sun. Girls in bikini tops and ski pants and guys in t-shirts and shorts were everywhere. The weather made everyone so alive and happy. When the pond skimming was over there was a great band playing down at the base.
