No Tardy March... What is the Real Question?

"Tardy is when you are late to class," said Ms. Hooker, explaining a phenomenon in which numbers have risen 50% this year compared to last in Treasure Mountain Junior High. Because of this acceleration in numbers, the school has begun a "No Tardies Contest" for the month of March.

Ms. Vicki, who works in the attendance office of TMJH, said that she believes that the reason tardies are up by such a large margin this year is because of a blatant "lack of respect for the clock."

That seems to be the extent of the knowledge on the mysterious tardy contest. It is like a black abyss, waiting to be explored… but no one is willing to enter.

No one knows what the prize is, or frankly anything else about the contest. How is anyone supposed to get motivation from an unknown prize? How is this contest going to work if Ms. Hooker is not going to mark James tardy so he will still be eligible for the contest? Is this really productive?

These are questions that have yet to be answered, questions that maybe will never be answered.

Zia Walther, Treasure Mountain Junior High 9th grader, says that she has been tardy a decent number of times, and that the contest is not good incentive to be on time to classes.

No Tardy March may be good idea, but the real question is, “Why doesn't anybody know or care about it?”
