Technology 101. Week 1

Hello! Welcome to Technology 101, a weekly article showing you how to accomplish many different things on the computer, tablet, or any other device that uses electricity. If you have a suggestion or another question on how to do something, let me know in the comments and I will get to you as soon as I can.

Common Keyboard Shortcuts
Here are some common keyboard shortcuts. Some of these are pretty simple, so pay attention.
Command + C = Copy
Command + V = Paste
Command + Shift + 3 = Full screen shot. Takes a photo of the whole screen.
Command + Shift + 4 = Small screen shot. Click and drag your mouse across the screen, and anything in between the two points will be photographed. Press space once to change to window mode, and you can highlight over a window and click. The window will be the only thing photographed.
Command + A = Highlight all. in a pages document, this can be useful with copy and paste.
Command + N = New. This works differently depending on the application. For example, if you click on the desktop and execute this command, you will get a new finder window. If you use the command in pages, you will get a new document.
Command + O = Open. You can open files with this command without double clicking them. Simply click on the file and execute the command, or highlight multiple files and execute it. Another way you can do this is holding Shift and clicking on multiple files, then do the command.
**WARNING** This command can crash your machine if you try to open too many files at once. Be careful.
Command + Shift + N = New Folder. Only use in finder application. This will create a new folder which you can name whatever you want.

Naming Folders = To name a folder, click on it, press enter, and type in the name. Press enter again or click off of the folder to save the named folder.
